Last night my roommate Dave and I drove from Omaha to Iowa City to see They Might Be Giants (http://www.tmbg.com/), one of our favorite bands, play a show. We left Omaha at about 3, drove through driving wind and rain in little Kimchi, my car. There was a wicked storm between Des Moines and Iowa City that was pushing west. I considered stopping and waiting it out, but knowing how weather works in Iowa, I knew it'd be better just to outrun it. It was fun times, I tell ya. (Ange, don't tell Mom!)
So we got to the venue, was in a ballroom at the a student union on the UofI campus. We went upstairs, wandered around until we found it, then stood in the lobby area for a couple minutes before I asked one of the staff if we were supposed to be there yet. He told us we were supposed to wait downstairs, so we went, waited about ten minutes then went back up. We ended up about 6 feet from the stage, it was awesome.
The opening act was actually quite good. They were Oppenheimer (www.myspace.com/Oppenheimer) a duo from Belfast, Ireland. They played electronic music. If you find electronic music weird and cool like I do, you should check them out. The title of the blog is a line from one of their songs.
The show was awesome, TMBG played a lot of songs off their new album and many of my favorites. We left Iowa City at 1215a and returned to Omaha at around 4a, extra time due to fog. And Kimchi is really bad for sleeping in if you're riding shotgun.

...
So I called in sick today, was told that unless I was really ill I needed to come in because we're shorthanded. So I come in, and I just learned that I get to work while sick and I don't get promoted.
I'm so very frustrated and mad right now.

Wait... TODAY is the sixth?
I'm trying to get a promotion to a teller manager or a personal banker, working 5 blocks from my house at a new branch as my bank changes from Nebraska State Bank (NSB) to Mutual of Omaha Bank (MoOB or MofO Bank[snicker snicker]). I applied for the positions a month and a half ago.
Tuesday I get a call saying they'd like me to go on to step two, an online personality assesment. The lady asks me if I'd be able to get it done by Friday morning. No problem, of course. I get the email last night at 1030p. They had sent it at 230p, but I had a half day so I wasn't much concerned about my emails. I read it, says much the same thing, tells me I need to complete it by 3pm on 9/6/07. I assume that's Friday, as the lady said.
I'm finishing my laundry at 1230a so I can wear socks to the bank today and a random thought slides through my brain, connecting the date with random numbers, 5-7. I pull out my phone, look to see that it's Sept 06 and realize that, tired as I am, I'm in no shape to do a personality test that can take 1.5 hours. So I called my supervisor at 8a, she let me come into work after I got the assessments done.
They were all true or false with questions like, and I kid you not:
"If I were in charge I could really get this country moving again."
"I have powerful enemies."
"I can do things better than people I know."
"I enjoy punting small dogs."
Ok, that last one is fake. I hate personality tests.
